Qualification Overview

The Level 3 Diploma in Combined Beauty Therapy Skills (RQF) is a combination of both Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in the beauty therapy industry. The qualification is aimed at those learners who wish to gain knowledge and skills relating to beauty therapy at Level 3 without existing prior knowledge.

The Level 3 Diploma in Combined Beauty Therapy Skills (RQF) is aimed to develop learners’ knowledge and skills, and confirm their competence, as beauty therapists. Learners will expand their scope of technical skills for employment as a beauty therapist, whilst learning how to plan, prepare, and deliver Level 3 beauty treatments safely and correctly, in accordance with health and safety regulations and legislation

COURSE DETAILS

Funded for individuals over the age of 19

Course Length: 1 days per week for 18-20 weeks, 09.30-16.30. Courses run in line with the school academic year and we therefore have breaks for half-terms, Easter, Christmas and the Summer holidays.

Type: Blended learning – classroom based 1 day a week and independent study (recommended 10 hours a week)

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification.

Applicants will also be required to complete a functional skills assessment upon enrolment.

Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon

Through this unit you will develop your skills in a supervisory role focusing on health and safety within your salon.

 

You will recognise salon hazards, carry out risk assessments and then implement the necessary actions. You will monitor and support your colleagues to ensure your salon complies with health and safety requirements. You will implement and supervise salon procedures for all aspects of salon safety and security including the need for insurance.

Anatomy physiology for Beauty

This unit will provide all of the necessary underpinning knowledge of anatomy and physiology to enable learners to understand the human body and its structures and functions, in order that they might safely and confidently apply a range of health and beauty treatments.

This unit will also provide an introduction to common pathologies for each system to assist the learners in identifying when and how a client may be contra-indicated to treatment.

Client care and communication in beauty-related industries

This is a preparation for work unit which is based on capability and knowledge. This unit is about client care and communication in beauty-related industries. You will develop your ability to adapt the provision of client care and your communication skills, to the needs of different clients, as well as learn how to manage client expectations.

Maintaining personal health and wellbeing

The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge and understanding of how to maintaining your own health and wellbeing.

 

This will include setting a personal action plan, having clear goals, regular monitoring, reviewing activities, evaluating your progress and updating your action plan. This is a continuous cycle for monitoring your eating, lifestyle, exercise and weight management. This unit applies to hairdressers, barbers, beauty therapists, spa therapists and nail technicians.

Provide manicure & pedicure treatments

This unit is about providing manicure services to clients. You will learn about consulting with the client, recognising any contra-indications, preparing for the service and producing a treatment plan. You will also learn about filing and buffing the nails, using skin and cuticle treatments, massaging the hand and lower arm and using a suitable nail finish.

Apply make-up

This unit will enable learners to provide basic make-up services to clients/models for a variety of occasions. Learners will develop their knowledge and skills to prepare and provide a professional make-up service. Learners will also develop an understanding of health, safety and hygiene, possible contra-indications and the uses of a variety of make-up products.

Carry out waxing services

This unit is about removing hair from areas of the body using various waxing techniques. You will be able to consult with clients, prepare for waxing services and produce treatment plans. You will need to provide treatment advice to clients particularly around the avoidance of certain activities and home care advice.

Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes

This unit is about providing eyelash and eyebrow tinting treatments to enhance the appearance of the eyelashes and eyebrows. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to be able to prepare for and provide eyelash and eyebrow tinting. Learners will be able to tint eyebrows and eyelashes for clients with different colouring characteristics (i.e. fair, red, dark and white). Learners will also develop their understanding of possible contra-indications along with the benefits and effects of tinting treatments.

Promote products and services to clients in a salon

This unit will give the learners the knowledge, understanding and skills required to promote and sell products and services to clients. Learners will understand how to sell beauty products and services and how to identify and implement effective sales strategies.

They will be able to promote and sell products with confidence and certainty. Retail skills are essential in the hair and beauty sector, especially when a large percentage of a salon’s revenue is made up of the sale of products and additional services. In this unit, learners will develop the skills needed to promote and sell hair and beauty-related products. 

Provide UV tanning

This unit is about providing and monitoring UV tanning treatments. The ability to provide tanning advice relevant to the client’s skin type and ensure usage to current industry guidelines is a critical element of this unit.

Apply Individual Permanent Lashes

This unit is about providing single eyelash extension treatments. To carry out this unit you will need to maintain effective health, safety and hygiene procedures throughout your work.

Provide self-tanning

This unit will enable learners to provide manual tan application to clients, treating the full body and face. Learners will learn about the salon requirements for providing manual tan treatments, including uniform and hygiene, health and safety requirements. Learners will also develop their understanding of cosmetic tanning ingredients and their effect on the skin Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare and maintain equipment, and provide a professional manual tan application.

Provide facial skin care treatment

This unit will enable learners to provide facial treatments to clients, working on the required areas of the face, neck and décolleté. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare for and provide a professional treatment whilst at the same time developing their understanding of possible contra-indications, along with indications for, and benefits and effects of professional facial treatments.

Provide Massage using Pre-blended Aromatherapy Oils

This unit is about the skills involved in providing body massage treatments. You will learn about the classical Swedish massage movements and will be required to adapt massage techniques to suit individual client needs. You will also learn about health, safety, hygiene and client care.

Provide threading services

This unit is about providing threading for hair removal on different areas of the face. To carry out this unit you will need to maintain effective health, safety and hygiene procedures throughout your work.

 

Display stock to promote sales in a salon

In this unit you will learn how to create an eye catching display using promotional materials, equipment and stock from your salon. Through careful planning, preparation and maintenance of your display, you will learn how to promote your salon and increase sales of services and retail products. You must follow safe working practices during the assembly and dismantling stages of the display.

Portfolio Assessments

Portfolio evidence to demonstrate your understanding. A portfolio of evidence must also be submitted as part of the assessment criteria

Practical Assessments

You will be producing a portfolio as you go along showcasing photographs, practical assessment, written assignments, oral questions and answers

Salon MANAGMENT

The aim of the Level 4 Diploma in Managing a Salon Business (RQF) is to enhance knowledge and skills of learners who have previously completed a Level 3 beauty qualification. The qualification will provide additional knowledge and skills to manage a salon business.
